Off to Australia

Good evening everyone,

I would like to first and foremost thank everyone who came out and supported me at my fundraiser. Everything that is happening over the coming week and a half is because of all of you, and I can’t thank you enough for this opportunity.

This is going to serve as the first of my Newsletter Updates. I will send out updates to everyone periodically, leading up to or following large events so as to make sure everyone is in the loop. If you would like to be removed from this list or know someone who would like to be added just shoot me a message and we can make that happen (my contact info is at the end).

Since we all talked last, I have gotten some very exciting news. Sail Canada announced today that I have been named this year’s recipient of the Nathan R. Cowan Memorial (Developing Sailor of the Year) Award. This is of course a massive honour which I am very thankful to receive. If the past is anything to go by this is a very good indication for how my application to the Canadian Sailing Team will be received this year. The awards ceremony will be at the Carlu on Young, Downtown Toronto on the 6th of March. If you so desire tickets are available at https://www.sailing.ca/events/2020-sailor-of-the-year-awards/ . Big things are on the horizon this year I can feel it!

In other news after 22 hours sitting in a middle seat, a delayed flight, nearly missed connection and lost baggage I have made the journey across 16 time zones and arrived in the land of kangaroos and clockwise revolving toilets. We are 16 hours ahead here (or 8 hours behind and a day ahead) so it is just after 11 am on Thursday the 6th here. I think finally today I have fully adjusted to the time change which is a relief as for the past few days it has been nearly impossible to stay up past 8pm. Today will be my 3rd day on the water and so far there has been nothing but wind! Standard procedure around here is light wind in the morning with a thermal generated sea breeze kicking in around 1pm and steadily building to 20 knots by late afternoon. With this in mind the race officials have set first gun for every day or racing at 2pm with the hope we will get some properly frothy conditions. The racing will be held from the 11th-16th, six days of racing with two races per day for a 12 race series. Results and in depth daily updates can be found at the following link. (http://2020-standard-men.laser-worlds.com/) With 5 days to go until racing I am starting my final preparations, making sure my boat is perfect, my head is in the right place and I am well rested. I am keeping a level head but getting quietly excited to get out on the racecourse to show what I’ve got. For daily updates on the happenings down under follow me on Instagram @james.juhasz where I will be posing stories.

Again, I cannot thank all of you enough for making this journey possible you are the real heroes for helping make my dream come true. If you wish to make contributions to my continuing Olympic Journey this is always possible through my website and at https://www.windathletes.ca/athletes/james-juhasz . Stay tuned for more updates coming in the future and don’t forget to tune into my social media for more content.

Sincerely,

James
